The NBA season's betting favorites to win the championship at
sportsbooks across the country are the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks.
At a number of sportsbooks, the Celtics and Bucks are co-favorites, but at Caesars Sportsbook,
Boston has slightly superior odds at +380, followed by Milwaukee at +400. The
Phoenix Suns (+600), Golden State Warriors (+850), and Denver Nuggets (+420)
round out the clubs with single-digit odds to open the season at Caesars
Sportsbook.The NBA Cup, the first in-season competition, is expected to be won
by the Celtics and Bucks, each of whom overhauled their backcourts in the
offseason. Veteran guard Jrue Holiday was added by Boston, and superstar Damian
Lillard was acquired by Milwaukee in exchange for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Nuggets drew the most and largest wagers to win the championship at Caesars Sportsbook,
which reported placing a $30,000 wager on Denver at 4-1 odds from a bettor in
Nevada that would pay a net of $120,000.
Bettors at bookmakers FanDuel and the SuperBook have placed the most money on the Los
Angeles Lakers, who are about 11-1 favorites to win the championship. Miami
Heat and the Los Angeles Clippers are each 22-1.The largest long shots, each
with chances of 500-1 at Caesars Sportsbook, are the Detroit Pistons, Charlotte
Hornets, Washington Wizards, and Portland Trail Blazers.
Following Antetokounmpo (6-1) and Luka Doncic
(11-2) of the Dallas Mavericks, Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets is the current
favorite to earn regular-season MVP with a 3-1 record.
Top draft pick Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs is the clear favorite to win Rookie
of the Year at -150 odds. According to betting database SportsOddsHistory.com,
Wembanyama is the first player to be the clear favorite to win Rookie of the
Year since Kevin Durant in 2007–08.Tuesday's first games of the year
will feature the Warriors hosting the Suns and the Nuggets hosting the Lakers.
