Broncos defeat Packers 19-17
DENVER - The Packers almost exactly replicated their previous
defeat in Las Vegas, playing poorly in the opening period before having a
chance to win in the closing moments of play intercepted.
Because of this, the Broncos prevailed 19-17 on Sunday in Denver, putting the Packers to 2-4
overall. Now 2-5, the Broncos.
The offense for Green Bay finally got going in the second half, scoring three times, the final
one being a deflected touchdown ball to WR Jayden Reed on fourth down to give
them a 17-16 lead after trailing by a score of 9-0 at the half (including a
missed field goal). The Broncos answered with a drive in the fourth quarter
that ended with a field goal, giving them the lead once more at 19-17.
Green Bay advanced to the Denver 44-yard line before being forced back to the other side of
midfield by a holding penalty on G Elgton Jenkins. The deep pass from QB Jordan
Love for WR Samori Toure was then intercepted by S P.J. Locke on third-and-20.
Love finished 21 of 31 for 180 yards with two touchdowns and the interception, good for a 90.8
passing rating. RB AJ Dillon gained 61 yards on the ground on 15 rushes and
added 34 yards on 2 receptions. RB Aaron Jones amassed 35 yards on eight rushes
and 22 yards on three receptions.

in the back, was replaced as the starting outside cornerback by Carrington

Denver moved into Green Bay territory after completing a 33-yard pass to
Courtland Sutton on a third-and-7 situation.
Another third down was successfully completed at the Packers' 31 by Wilson's second connection
with Sutton for a 3-yard gain. Quinn Bailey was called for holding, preventing
Denver from scoring on a fourth-and-1 TD run of 4 yards by Javonte Williams.
With 8 minutes, 27 seconds remaining in the first quarter, the Broncos choose to kick a 32-yard
field goal by Will Lutz to take a 3-0 lead.
For Green Bay, Aaron Jones got the ball first but only managed two yards on his first two
carries. The Packers were forced to punt despite Jordan Love's underneath ball
to AJ Dillon going for six yards.
Quay Walker's 1-yard tackle for a loss of Williams on second down helped Green Bay's defense
secure a three-and-out.
Starting at the
ackers' 38, Jones gained five yards with a dive across the middle to set up a
first down pass from Love of eight yards to tight end Luke Musgrave.
Love and Jayden Reed's inability to connect on a pass downfield on third-and-6 forced the
Packers to punt. Despite the Packers appearing to draw a defender offsides on
fourth-and-6, center Josh Myers received a false start penalty. A touchback
resulted from Daniel Whelan's 51-yard punt that ricocheted into the end zone.
Second quarter
action will get underway for Denver in Green Bay territory.
With a 9-yard pass
on a slant to Sutton, Denver drove into Green Bay's red zone after converting
on third-and-5.
Wilson was forced
out of the pocket and forced to fumble the ball on a second-and-8 by Kingsley Enagbare
and Lukas Van Ness working together.
Devonte Wyatt of the Packers' defensive line was hurt during the play. Due to a knee injury,
Wyatt's ability to continue is in doubt.
The Broncos settled for a 29-yard Lutz field goal with 13:14 remaining in the half to increase
their lead to 6-0 after Preston Smith forced Wilson to throw the ball away on
third down.
