Australia and New Zealand will welcome Galaxy Pictures as a new film distributor (EXCLUSIVE)
In order to distribute movies in Australia and New Zealand, Rialto of Australia and Vertigo Releasing of the United Kingdom have teamed up to form Galaxy Pictures.
Together, the two businesses have handled 120 titles throughout the last three years of
collaboration. Together, they have worked on films such as "Honest
Thief," "Boss Level," "Ainbo: Amazon Princess,"
"Dreambuilders," "The Misfits," and "Cosmic Sin."
The new company is an official expression of that collaboration.
Galaxy's 2024 release schedule features the films "Land of Bad," starring Russell
Crowe and Liam Hemsworth from Australia; "Long Legs," starring
Nicolas Cage; "Sleeping Dogs," starring Russell Crowe and Karen
Gillan; "Armoured," starring Sylvester Stallone; "The
Canterville Ghost," starring Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie; and "The
Rule of Jenny," starring John Lithgow and Geoffrey Rush from Australia.
"With our strongest slate to date and the amazing films Kelly and the crew have produced
over the past three years, now is the perfect time to launch Galaxy
It was announced ahead of the upcoming Australian International Movie Convention and is the
second announcement in as many weeks by a new distributor in the Australia-New
Zealand market. Canada's VVS Films announced earlier this month that it will be
setting up shop in Australia, releasing a film titled "Dream
Scenario," which stars Nicolas Cage.
Since COVID, the Australian theater industry has rebounded fairly well. However, similar to
other segments of the country's broadcast and streaming market, it is still
vulnerable to significant shifts as the country's major pay-TV provider,
Foxtel, is redefining itself as a streamer and aggregator and traditional
studio business declines.
