There is still flooding in Trinidad's east and south.
Following Wednesday afternoon's thunderstorms, flash flooding
is being reported in a number of locations throughout Trinidad.
Drivers chose to avoid the flooding by using the
right lane of the westbound carriageway while the eastbound lanes of the
Churchill Roosevelt Highway were flooded between Orange Grove Road and Trincity
as of 3:45 p.m.
Additionally, portions of the Sir Solomon Hochoy
Highway's southbound lanes close to the Couva flyover were partially inundated.
Newsday is still awaiting official reports from law enforcement.
Videos that have surfaced on social media,
however, show power lines catching fire after a heavy downpour close to UWI,
St. Augustine, and flooding in the same vicinity as well as at Tunapuna along
the Eastern Main Road.
Videos captured street flooding at Williamsville, Penal, Princes Town, and the Piparo junction
in south Trinidad. The TT Meteorological Service said that initially sunny
conditions would be broken up by a few partly overcast periods with showers
occasionally at 10 am.
It forecasted a 60% or medium risk of isolated, heavy afternoon showers or thunderstorms, with a
preference for western, hilly locations. It issued a warning that strong gusts,
flash flooding, and heavy rain or thunderstorms could happen.
