Smith and Warner are back in the T20I team for the India tour.
Four days after the 2023 World Cup Final, in
November, Australia's 15-man team will embark on a five-match Twenty20
International series against India, with Matthew Wade leading the way.
The all-rounders Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green, as well as the pace trio of Pat Cummins,
Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, who are now with the World Cup team, have
been rested and will return to Australia to get ready for the summer Test
series. Due to his ongoing recovery from a calf injury, Ashton Agar was not
selected. Steve Smith and David Warner, who were absent from the South Africa tour, have rejoined the
Twenty20 team. Squad: Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa, Tim David, Sean Abbott, Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Ellis, Travis
Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, and Matthew Wade
George Bailey, the selection panel chair, commented on the chosen team, saying: "We hope that
this seasoned team will continue to grow into key members of our Twenty20 team.
It includes a mix of players who have made their debut on the international
scene. Matthew is a leader in the group and has captained the team before, so we are excited to see him
take the helm for this series. This is a fantastic chance to broaden our
understanding of and experience with international leadership, much like Mitch
Marsh did in the South Africa series.
Along with Tanveer Sangha, who is now a
traveling reserve, the majority of the team has a great deal of experience
playing in India, including eight players of the current ODI World Cup squad."
